ZHOU DENG-DENG
Zhou Dengwen, nicknamed Deng Deng, hails from Ya'an, China—the homeland of pandas. Her name “deng” has various beautiful meanings and forms in Chinese: “登” comes from her given name, symbolizing the ascent to great heights, while “灯” represents an inner light illuminating everything around her.
Deng Deng's painting style is fresh and full of lingering ink charm, projecting the tension of life in its calmness. Her artistic philosophy is inspired by the great literary figure Su Dongpo’s words: “Only the clear wind on the river and the bright moon in the mountains can be heard and seen.” In her creations, Deng Deng strives to express this unrestrained and free-spirited elegance, while also embodying the aesthetic characteristics and humanistic atmosphere of traditional Chinese culture. Through her paintings, she hopes to freely express her state of mind, using form and color to depict the myriad things in the world, giving a sense of belonging to both the ear and the eye, and conveying an artistic sentiment that is ordinary, steadfast, and rich.
